Friends of a Farmer is a Slowness initiative in Portugal dedicated to culinary crafts and agrarian ethics.Through a celebrated farmers’ market, a coastal farmscape, an ongoing programme of events, and a considered selection of organic products from around the country, we aim to foster a more respectful and enjoyable approach to place.
Friends of a Farmer was born at La Granja Ibiza with the intention to reawaken soil and cultivate discourse around food. In Portugal, it manifested as a community-supported agriculture project grounded in the limestone soils of the Arrabida coast, feeding friends with organic produce and the beauty of fresh flowers.

Friends of a Farmer has evolved organically into a market platform bringing together local makers, growers and chefs in Lisbon. Our mission lies in sourcing, collaborating and promoting outstanding products. We seek out craftspeople and small enterprises that privilege passion, authenticity, and reverence for the earth, as well as a commitment to sustaining health.

Herdade do Meco, our organic farm in Arrabida cultivated in partnership with Campo Culture, is where we continue to nurture agrarian ethics and share nature skills with our community.
OUR MARKET
Our regular Farmer’s Market has turned Largo Agostinho da Silva, a poetic square next to Praça das Flores, into one of Lisbon’s vibrant gathering places. We collaborate with Magnolia, the local hit café, to highlight a rotating roster of exceptional winemakers, artisans, producers, mercearias and restaurants. From spring through autumn, our Thursday market offers the opportunity to discover the flavors and makers of Portugal.

Calendar of Events
“Conventional agribusinesses are polluting our land, degrading our soils and harming our planet. Our farm offers a conscious alternative. We see the farm as a whole living system and treat our soil as the essential ingredient to our nutrient-rich food, offering our friends real food that they can trust.”
— Master farmer Andy Szymanowicz
